Stormy's Lawyer Says We're in For Some Fun

With the look of a man who’s hit lifetime pay dirt, Stormy Daniels’s lawyer Michael Avenatti has been touring cable news telling us to buckle up for a ride. On Saturday, he told Joy Reid that the Trump NDAs will get “well into the double digits,” all while marveling that Trump’s lawyer Michael Cohen is a miraculously incompetent fart.

Here’s a bit of manna from Jake Tapper, who rolls a clip of Senator Lindsey Graham calling Cohen an idiot for recording privileged conversations and then asks, straight-faced:

Do you agree with his assessment of Mr. Cohen and the notion that it’s idiotic for him to record conversations?

Sometimes the gods smile on us.

Just look at that face. He’s eluding to Kremlin ties. He’s tweeting about the Godfather. On Sunday, Avenatti announced that Stormy Daniels will be attending a hearing on Monday on whether to grant Cohen a temporary restraining order against prosecutors who are investigating the seized documents.

More importantly, though, Cohen has been futzing around Trump’s business dealings for over a decade, which presumably means that he has a treasure trove for investigators. The New Yorker’s Adam Davidson reminds us that the recordings, documents, and devices seized from Cohen will reveal more about ties to large money-laundering schemes which have been well-reported, if less sensationalized. “He wasn’t a slick politico who showed up for a few months,” Davidson writes. “He knows everything, he recorded much of it, and now prosecutors will know it, too.”

CNN reported earlier this week that Cohen is under investigation for wire fraud, campaign finance issues, and bank fraud tied to his own taxi business.
