Farewell to Lindsey Graham and His Dream of a 'Rotating' First Lady

After several months of polling at one percent on a good day, South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham announced Monday morning he’s dropping out of the Republican primary race. In related news, Lindsey Graham was, until this morning, still in the Republican primary race.

Graham told CNN he’ll be announcing the end of his campaign in an email to his supporters, which sounds right. He also expressed frustration at never having been allowed to participate in the big-kid debates:

“My biggest problem is a lot of people like what I say, but not a lot of people hear it,” he said. “I don’t want to be the undercard voice. I cannot tell you how frustrating it has been to have spent all this time and effort preparing myself to be Commander-in-Chief and to be put at the ‘kiddie table’.” His advice to his party as it relates to the debate format: “Never do this again.”

Graham has never been married; his most noteworthy contribution to the campaign season were his bad suggestions about who could be First Lady if he was elected:

Thinking it over, the Republican senator told Daily Mail Online: ‘Well, I’ve got a sister, she could play that role if necessary.’

Chuckling, he added: ‘I’ve got a lot of friends. We’ll have a rotating first lady.’

Your campaign may be over, Senator, but the way we cringe when we think about that sentence will endure.
