Republicans Continue to Spend a Lot of Fucking Money at Trump Properties

Politics

The Republican National Committee spent a whopping $271,000 at two Trump properties in February, according to a report from The Washington Post. All told, 86 percent of the committee’s February expenses marked as “venue rental and catering” were basically funneled right into Trump’s pocket.

Federal Election Committee filings show that the money went to the Trump International Hotel in Washington and the Trump National Doral Miami resort in Florida. About $205,000 was spent at the Miami resort, where RNC big wigs were maybe trying, in vain, to tan.

The RNC is no stranger to dropping serious coin at Trump’s businesses, because glaring conflicts of interest that throw any semblance of ethics out the window don’t seem to exist in their universe.

From WaPo:

Since his election, Trump’s private properties have attracted steady business from the RNC, party committees, congressional campaigns and outside groups, which spend anywhere from about $300 to over $160,000 per event, an analysis by The Washington Post shows. Dozens of Republican lawmakers and candidates have spent campaign or PAC money at the president’s properties since his election, The Post found.

Trump famously refused to sell his businesses upon taking office, opting for a fake ass trust controlled by his eldest sons instead. This, of course, is a fucking joke.

Correction: An earlier version of this article described the arrangement regarding Trump’s assets as a “blind trust.” It’s actually just a trust that puts Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, and the Trump Organization’s Chief Financial Officer Allen Weisselberg in charge of the day-to-day operations of Trump’s business. Trump still reportedly receives the inside scoop on his company. He can also revoke his sons’ or Weisselberg’s charge of the trust at any time.
