Rashida Tlaib Wants to 'Impeach the Motherfucker'

On Thursday, after being sworn-in as the new representative for Michigan’s 13th district and some extremely cute dabbing from her sons, Rashida Tlaib also called for the impeachment of Donald Trump, or, in her words, “the motherfucker.”

She brought up impeaching the motherfucker at an event sponsored by the progressive group MoveOn on Thursday night: “And when your son looks at you and says, ‘Momma, look you won, bullies don’t win,’” Tlaib said. “And I said, ‘Baby, they don’t,’ because we’re gonna go in there and we’re gonna impeach the motherfucker.”

Watch a video of this tender moment here:

Representative Jerry Nadler, who is now the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, apparently was not pleased, going on CNN on Friday morning to assure viewers that there would be no rush to impeach the president. “We have to get the facts, and we’ll see where the facts lead, and maybe that’ll lead to impeachment, and maybe it won’t,” Nadler said.

On Friday, Tlaib responded to critics. “I will always speak truth to power,” Tlaib wrote, adding in another tweet, “This is not just about Donald Trump. This is about all of us. In the face of this constitutional crisis, we must rise.”

The motherfucker himself also responded on Friday morning:

Is beginning impeachment proceedings a good idea? I don’t know! But on Thursday morning, Tlaib and John Bonifaz, the co-founder and president of Free Speech For People, published an op-ed in the Detroit Free Press that laid out why it’s time “to remove the president and put this country on a path to true justice,” and addressed the pesky issue of “facts” that Nadler raised:

We already have overwhelming evidence that the president has committed impeachable offenses, including, just to name a few: obstructing justice; violating the emoluments clause; abusing the pardon power; directing or seeking to direct law enforcement to prosecute political adversaries for improper purposes; advocating illegal violence and undermining equal protection of the laws; ordering the cruel and unconstitutional imprisonment of children and their families at the southern border; and conspiring to illegally influence the 2016 election through a series of hush money payments.

She and Bonifaz also addressed those who argue that impeachment proceedings are a distraction:

We are also now hearing the dangerous claim that initiating impeachment proceedings against this president is politically unwise and that, instead, the focus should now shift to holding the president accountable via the 2020 election. Such a claim places partisan gamesmanship over our country and our most vulnerable at this perilous moment in our nation’s history. Members of Congress have a sworn duty to preserve our Constitution. Leaving a lawless president in office for political points would be abandoning that duty.

“The time for impeachment proceedings is now,” they wrote. Or, in other words, they want to impeach the motherfucker.
