In an NBC News exclusive, Manigault Newman released tapes of a phone call she had with Trump the day after White House Chief of Staff John Kelly fired her from whatever nebulous position the former Apprentice reality star managed to grift her way into.
The clip doesn’t reveal much, besides Trump maybe not knowing—or pretending not to know? Honestly which is worse?—that Kelly fired Manigault Newman:
Trump: Omarosa, what’s going on? I just saw on the news that you’re thinking about leaving? What happened?
Manigault Newman: General Kelly—General Kelly came to me and said that you guys wanted me to leave.
Trump: No…I, I—nobody even told me about it.
Manigault Newman: Wow…
Trump: You know, they run a big operation, but I didn’t know it. I didn’t know that. Goddamn it! I don’t love you leaving at all.
I’m not a voice expert, but this is definitely what I sound like when a friend thinks she’s telling me a secret and I have to act like I didn’t already get second-hand gossip about it from another friend.
