Oh Great ICE Is At the Fucking Super Bowl

Politics

Welcome, 2018, to the U-S-of-fucking-A, where every American should be advised to carry his birth certificate, social security card and passport to attend the Super Bowl because yes, immigration and customs enforcement officers will be there. Thanks to the GOP, which prizes limited government, freedom, the Constitution, government-funded video graphics which convey that we are living in a game of Counter-Strike.

In answer to your question “Why is the HSI [Homeland Security Investigations] at the Super Bowl?” they have set up a webpage. An excerpt:

This year, led by St. Paul Special Agent in Charge and Super Bowl federal coordinator Alex Khu, HSI will work with its law enforcement partners throughout Super Bowl week to provide public safety to all in attendance and combat many of the threats the league and host city face leading up to and during the big game.

In recent weeks, immigration patrol officers have proven that they’re here to protect us from a green card holding doctor, a green card holding US Army veteran, and a 10-year-old girl with cerebral palsy. Did you know that they can reevaluate your marriage to determine if you really love your spouse? Did you know that they can arrest people at routine check-ins? Did you know that 2/3 of Americans live in a “border zone” where the Constitutional protection against random and arbitrary stops and searches does not apply? Learning a lot lately.

But no, ICE is just touting its initiative “Operation Team Player,” to protect us from the violent propagation of fake sports apparel and merchandise. “The practice endangers public health, the economy and restricts the competitiveness of U.S. products in the global market,” they say. Naturally, the automatic rifles and bullet-proof camo are on lock.

Sen. Patricia Torres Ray (D-Minneapolis), who claims she and other elected officials were not made aware of ICE’s planned presence until they were “at our doorstep,” expressed skepticism in an interview with Rewire. “I just want to know why Minnesota—why do we have the largest security effort in Super Bowl history?” she asked. “If it’s an unprecedented level of security, and it is, there has to be a reason. Why in this state at this moment—and why is ICE coming here?”

Whatever the reason, they’re having a great time and broadcasting the fun all over social media via government-sanctioned accounts. What can one say when people’s lives–with no exaggeration, people found riddled with bullets, strangled, incinerated–and even simply families separated–are in the hands of guys rounding up fake Super Bowl tickets with guns. It is horrific spectacle.
