“That’s a long conversation” was Ben Carson’s response to a person who challenged the GOP’s slumbering marsupial candidate on whether being gay is a choice.
The lovely encounter with Carson happened after a town hall meeting on Monday in Staten Island, New York and dials back to a previous statement he made in March during a CNN interview—“A lot of people who go into prison go into prison straight,” said Carson at the time. “And when they come out, they’re gay. So did something happen while they were in there? Ask yourself that question.”
This incredibly smart guy later apologized for his gaffe, writing on Facebook: “I realized that my choice of language does not reflect fully my heart on gay issues.”
But now that his beliefs are etched in stone, an attendee used the town hall opportunity to hypothetically question Carson’s philosophy on gay people.
Here’s the convo:
Attendee: “I have a quick question. Do you think I chose to be gay?”
Carson: “Did you choose to be gay?”
Attendee: “Yes, I said did you think I chose to be gay?”
Carson: “That’s a long conversation. That’s a long conversation.”
Attendee: “I think you’re full of shit.”
