Former Trump lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen is going to testify before Congress on an array of topics next Wednesday.
Originally scheduled for earlier this month, Cohen’s testimony was pushed back after Cohen said he’d been threatened by the president and his attorney, Rudy Giuliani. Now that the date is set, Cohen will have the opportunity to share what exactly he was up to while working as Trump’s consigliere, antics that included illegally paying hush money to two women with whom the president allegedly had affairs.
“I am pleased to announce that Michael Cohen’s public testimony before the Oversight Committee is back on, despite efforts by some to intimidate his family members and prevent him from appearing,” Representative Elijah Cummings, a Maryland Democrat chairs the House Oversight and Reform Committee, said in a statement.
After he testifies publicly, Cohen will appear in a closed session before the House intelligence committee. Unfortunately, the public hearing won’t include questions about Russian interference in the election. But that doesn’t mean there won’t be plenty of other bombshell revelations that promise to mortify us as a nation even more than we already are.
“He needs to tell his personal story to the American people,” Lanny Davis, Cohen’s attorney, said on the podcast The Investigation.
“And when he does, you’re going to hear personal, front-line experiences of memories, and incidents, and conduct, and comments that Donald Trump said over that 10-year time period behind closed doors that, to me when I first heard Michael tell me all this, even as much as I knew about Trump that was negative, was chilling.”
God help us.
