The View made its triumphant return on Tuesday, complete with a cameo appearance from Abby Huntsman’s incredibly tranquil newborns and a not-so-tranquil Meghan McCain rallying against “gun grabbers” who apparently want nothing more than to take away her right to drink Jack Daniels on the shooting range with her husband.

Since The View went on its summer break, and as is depressingly common at this point, there have been a series of mass shootings across the United States. The most recent of which occurred in Odessa, Texas, and left seven people dead. The shooter reportedly previously failed a background check, and he did not undergo a background check when he obtained the AR-style gun that was used in the attack.

But this doesn’t appear to bother McCain—who helpfully described herself as “the chick on the panel that spent most of her break shooting”—one bit. What does bother her is Beto O’Rourke’s call for gun buybacks and any threat against her NRA-card carrying rights.

When View co-host Joy Behar asserted that voting for the Republican Party is a vote for stagnation on assault weapon legislation, McCain lost it.

“The AR-15 is by far the most popular gun in America, by far,” she said. “I was just in middle-of-nowhere Wyoming… if you’re talking about taking people’s guns from them, there’s going to be a lot of violence.”

Ignoring the fact that McCain suggested a violent insurrection as a normal response to a change in gun policy, Behar then noted that gun owners have lived without AR-15 before. McCain pushed back. “I’m not living without guns!” McCain yelled. “It’s just that simple.”

Co-hosts Sunny Hostin and Huntsman joined in on the dogpile. McCain felt attacked. Welcome back to The View.

There are traumatized teenagers advocating for more sensible gun policy than Meghan McCain, a grown woman who is paid millions of dollars to share her bad opinions on national television. McCain’s ability to shoot targets as meditation would in no way be infringed upon by the introduction of highly specific weapons bans and buybacks, waiting periods, comprehensive background checks, or stronger safety nets that help women escape violent relationships before they become lethal. McCain likely already knows this. Take that for what you will.
