It Seems Katy Perry, Like Most of America, Didn't Vote In the 2014 Midterms

Politics

Katy Perry, one of Hillary Clinton’s most vocal and fashion-forward supporters, is a registered voter in California. And, like most registered voters, she seemingly didn’t hit up her local ballot box during the 2014 midterms. Her manager wouldn’t confirm her registered address, but an LA County registrant confirmed to Jezebel that a voter with the legal name Katheryn Hudson and born October 25, 1984 did not vote in the 2014 midterms.

That suggests that the last time Perry voted was during the 2012 general election. And there isn’t anything surprising about a young American skipping the midterm elections—only 21 percent of 18- to 29-year-olds voted in 2014, which was a factor in the Republican sweep—but when your name is Katy Perry and you’re taking selfies with Hillary Clinton, parading around her campaign trail in dressed like Uncle Sam at a drag ball, and buying her aspirational jewelry, a fiercer dedication to her cause is expected.

Last June, Perry posed for a photograph with Clinton pledging to write her “theme” song “if she needs it.” A few months later—just before the November midterms—she urged her Instagram followers to go out and vote… for her.
