The walking, speaking corpse that is Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, who is reportedly worth about $700 million and yet still allegedly feels compelled to snag Sweet’N Low packets when he visits restaurants in addition to allegedly stealing $120 million from his investors back in the day, was on CNBC Thursday morning to speak about something he apparently knows quite a lot about: the financial distress of the hundreds of thousands of government employees and contractors who find themselves unable to pay their rent or home mortgages or their bills due to the government shutdown.
Asked to comment on reports that furloughed government employees are going to food banks at homeless shelters in order to feed themselves and their families, Ross had this to say: “I know they are, and I don’t really quite understand why.” He then expressed confusion as to why people aren’t simply… getting a loan.
He is, of course, not the only one in Donald Trump’s orbit who has dismissed the suffering of the federal employees who are being used as pawns in Trump’s efforts to build a border wall. Earlier this week, Trump’s daughter-in-law Lara Trump went on Bold TV and described the shutdown as “a little bit of pain” that’s “so much bigger than any one person.”
She continued: “I know it’s hard. I know people have families, they have bills to pay, they have mortgages, they have rents that are due.” But she added, “It’s going to be for the future of our country, and their children and their grandchildren and generations after them will thank them for their sacrifice right now.”
Who needs food when you have the satisfaction of not feeding your hungry children?
