Joe Biden: I'm Not Running for President, OK?

Politics

Vice President Joe Biden held a last-minute, sneak-attack press conference in the White House’s Rose Garden this afternoon, where he announced he will not be running for president, saying he’s still too deep in grieving the death of his son Beau.

Flanked by President Obama and his wife Jill, Biden said “I’ve concluded it has closed,” referring to the window for running for president.

“Beau was our inspiration,” he added. “Unfortunately, I believe we’re out of time, the time needed to mount a winning campaign.” He added, “I will not be silent. I intend to speak clearly and forcefully to influence where we need to go as a party and where we need to go as a nation.”

Biden also praised President Obama for leading the nation “from crisis to recovery” and said the country would make “a tragic mistake if we attempt to undo the Obama legacy.”

Well, there it is. Watch the remains of the press conference live on C-Span here.
