Ivanka Trump Had a Lovely Weekend Pretending to Be a World Leader

This weekend, world leaders met at the G-20 summit in Osaka, Japan, an annual gathering of the most powerful people on the planet who come together to discuss how to continue to fuck over the rest of us. And for some inexplicable reason, Ivanka Trump was there, too.

Over the weekend, the official Instagram account of the French presidential palace posted an Instagram story that shows Ivanka having what certainly seems like a very awkward conversation with British Prime Minister Theresa May, French President Emmanuel Macron, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and International Monetary Fund head Christine Lagarde. Lagarde, in particular, was not having it!

And here Ivanka is summarizing a meeting and repeating the words “critical” and “productive” several times. I’m mostly transfixed by her inability to speak due to her very blinding veneers:

After the conclusion of the G-20 summit, she traipsed over to the Korean peninsula, where she stepped into the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea. She described it as “surreal”—which for once, I agree!

Her presence at the DMZ alarmed people like Michael McFaul, a former ambassador to Russia. “Ivanka Trump is not on the National Security Council—she is not an adviser on the issues being discussed,” McFaul told the New York Times. “So her presence undermines the professional look of the Trump delegation, both to other countries and to national security professionals in the Trump administration.”

McFaul isn’t the only former ambassador alarmed by the role that Ivanka seems to be taking up. “It looks to the rest of the world like we have a kind of a constitutional monarchy,” Christopher Hill, a former ambassador to South Korea, told the Washington Post. He continued: “It’s increasingly problematic in terms of our credibility. It says to our allies, to everyone we do business with, that the only people who matter are Trump and his family members.”

And Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez did not mince words when she called out Ivanka’s presence on the trip. “It may be shocking to some, but being someone’s daughter actually isn’t a career qualification,” she wrote.

Nepotism, we love to see it!
