Special Counsel Robert Mueller is reportedly looking into Ivanka Trump and Don Jr.’s role in a Trump real estate project in Russia that went caput.
After news broke on Thursday that President Trump’s former attorney, Michael Cohen, lied to Congress about the timeframe in which he was involved in a plan to create Trump Tower Moscow, Yahoo News reports that Mueller is questioning the extent of Ivanka and Don Jr’s participation leading up to the 2016 election:
Multiple sources have confirmed to Yahoo News that the president’s elder daughter, Ivanka, who is now a top White House adviser, and his eldest son, Don Jr., were also working to make Trump Tower Moscow a reality. The sources said those efforts were independent of Cohen’s work on the project. One of the sources said Ivanka was also involved in Cohen’s efforts. And a separate source familiar with the investigation told Yahoo News that Mueller has asked questions about Ivanka and Don Jr.’s work on Trump Tower Moscow.
According to Yahoo News, Mueller claims in charging documents that Cohen lied about the fact that he “briefed family members” of Trump who worked at the Trump Organization about the Moscow project. Both Ivanka and Don Jr. worked at the company at the time, and Don Jr. continues to work there. Ivanka is currently a White House adviser. Wait, I mean, first daughter who shouldn’t be asked difficult questions about her boss. Wait, I mean her dad.
But a source “familiar with the Trump Organization” told Yahoo News that neither Don Jr. nor Ivanka’s involvement with the Trump Tower Moscow plan overlapped with Cohen’s:
A source familiar with the Trump Organization confirmed to Yahoo News that Ivanka and Don Jr. engaged in separate efforts to build a Trump Tower in Moscow. The source said these efforts began “years earlier” than Cohen’s project and concluded in 2013.
“They were not looking at any other deals after that,” the source said.
The source also confirmed that both Ivanka and Don Jr. were aware of Cohen’s attempts to build in Moscow. According to the source, Ivanka’s role was limited to recommending an architect and Don Jr. was only “peripherally” aware of the plan.
