Donald Trump Loves Breastfeeding, Says Donald Trump

Donald Trump, whose administration declined to support an international resolution to dispel myths about breastfeeding to instead side with infant formula manufacturers, has tweeted to clarify that no, actually, he is a fan of breastfeeding:

The tweet comes in response to a report from the New York Times pointing out that the resolution in support of breastfeeding, which was expected to pass without issue, was derailed after the administration tried to remove language that called on governments to “protect, promote and support breast-feeding” and weaken other language related to the promotion of food products targeted at young children.

“What happened was tantamount to blackmail, with the U.S. holding the world hostage and trying to overturn nearly 40 years of consensus on the best way to protect infant and young child health,” Patti Rundall, the policy director of the British advocacy group Baby Milk Action, told the Times.

Trump did not, however, tweet to clarify the administration’s alleged threat to punish Ecuador, which was slated to introduce the measure, to withdraw military aid and or sever trade agreements over the resolution.
