All glory to Donald Trump, a man whose lack of self-awareness and repugnant attitude don’t take a break even during the holiday season. No one knows what the presidential contender’s got in store for Christmas, but for Thanksgiving he’s making fun of disabled people.
On Tuesday, the hairpiece come to life took some time out of his busy schedule to continue spreading the lie that Muslims in New Jersey were celebrating the fuck out of September 11th on the day it occurred. And, to back up his spurious claims, Trump cited an article in The Washington Post written by Serge Kovalevski, who has a congenital joint condition.
Now, the fact that Kovalevski suffers from a congenital joint condition should have no bearing on whether thousands of Muslims in America’s Garden State thought that September 11 was hella cool and fun, but Trump can’t just refute a legit source without letting his audience hear, feel, and see exactly what its author is like and why he’s a dumb idiot who everyone should hate.
“Now, the poor guy — you ought to see the guy: ‘Uh, I don’t know what I said. I don’t remember,’” Trump said, as he contorted his arms in an apparent imitation of Kovaleski, who suffers from arthrogryposis.
Cool. Cool. No better way to discredit someone than to make fun of how they move based on a condition they have no control over. I mean, why ever admit you were wrong about anything when there are disabled people out in the world you can shit on by mocking something that’s probably been a lifelong challenge? I know that if Trump were attacking me, I wouldn’t feel okay unless he squinted real hard and said “now this legally blind asshole who writes for some porn site called Jizzabel,” while pointing out the fault in my work.
Fortunately, Kovalevski had some stuff to say about Trump as well:
Kovaleski hit back at Trump, too. “The sad part about it is,” he told The Washington Post this week, “it didn’t in the slight bit jar or surprise me that Donald Trump would do something this low-rent, given his track record.”
What will Trump do next? Where will he draw the line? Is it possible that we might see him do an ethnic accent or wear blackface before this election is over?
The silver lining, besides the fact that Trump is reminding all of us, once again, why he is not fit to be the president of anything but his own fan club, is that The Washington Post has now added a disclaimer to their fourteen year old article pointing out that Trump’s been misusing it. So they’ve got that going for them, which is nice.
