Stacey Abrams is set to deliver the Democratic response to President Trump’s State of the Union address on February 5, according to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. This will likely be an upgrade from Joe Kennedy’s well meaning but flat (and spittle-filled) Democratic response last year.
Abrams, a progressive Democrat who previously served in the Georgia legislature, became a household name during the 2018 midterm elections when she ran an incredibly tight race against the state’s now-Governor Brian Kemp. Abrams, whose campaign inspired unprecedented turnout, is also currently involved in a lawsuit challenging the way state elections are run.
It’s nice when Democratic leadership can actually read the fucking room.
