Scott Lloyd, the religious zealot whose tenure as the director of the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Refugee Resettlement was marked by extreme incompetence and a singleminded focus on preventing every teen in ORR custody from obtaining an abortion, has a new job. Unfortunately for us, it’s still in government and not maybe gardening or light carpentry in a remote part of the country.
As reported on Monday, Lloyd will now be a senior advisor at HHS’ Center for Faith and Opportunity Initiatives, where he’ll join his fellow anti-abortion, anti-LGBTQ bigot Shannon Royce, the center’s director. Royce, in case you need a reminder, is part of what Politico described in January as a “small cadre of politically prominent religious activists” inside the department who are working to gut abortion protections and trans healthcare access. Before joining HHS, she worked for the rabidly homophobic Family Research Council, where she played an active role in promoting conversion therapy and decrying gay marriage.
Truly sounds like a match made in heaven.
