Bernie Sanders Condemns 'Trumps of the World' for Islamophobia in Wake of Brussels Attack

On Tuesday evening, Bernie Sanders returned to late-night television for a notably somber conversation with Jimmy Kimmel. During the interview, Sanders discussed his relationship with Hillary Clinton, the extremely long election process, and the devastating attacks in Brussels.

Sanders used the attacks to condemn his Republican counterparts for wanting to make the United States’ response to the attacks an indictment of every Muslim.

“At the end of the day, we cannot allow the Trumps of the world to use these incidents to attack all of the Muslim people in the world,” he said of the terrorist attacks. “That is unfair—to imply that because someone is a Muslim they are a terrorist, that is an outrageous statement, equally so when he talks about Mexicans coming over the border as rapists or criminals. That is not what this country is about.”

Is anyone else at “can you not?” stage about Obama’s Cuba trip just happening to be at the same time as the Brussels attack? If he had said “fuck this shit, i’m watching baseball” and left after the attack, fine that’s one thing. But he was already there, on state business trying to help re-establish ties with a country we’ve been working hard to have normal relations with. So what the hell could he do at the White House, or get there, that he couldn’t in Cuba?

It’s also hilarious since it’s usually coming from Republicans who ignore that Bush was goofing and reading to kids who probably had better reading and speaking skills than him while his Saudi buddies were flying planes into the WTC.

I know this has nothing to do with Sanders but it’s political and since this is the political blog I had to get it off my chest.
