AOC's Twitter Rules: 'Don't Talk Like the Founding Fathers'

NewsPolitics

On Monday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a phoenix rising from the ashes of the Democratic Party, appeared on Stephen Colbert’s Late Show to discuss some of her wild and crazy ideas, including that 70 percent marginal tax rate on the super wealthy, the radical notion that “social movements should be the moral compass for our politics,” and how to not be bad at Twitter.

It’s a very simple rule that nearly everyone on the internet ignores: “Don’t try to be anyone that you’re not.”

Naming what, from my estimation, appears to be the top social media missteps of Democrats, she said: “Don’t try to talk like a young kid if you’re not a young kid. Don’t post a meme if you don’t know what a meme is.”

And the most important one, in my opinion: “Don’t talk like the founding fathers on Twitter. If you’re a mom who likes to garden, talk like a mom that likes to garden. That’s all you’ve got to do.”

She left out the true first rule of Twitter, though, which is to delete your account and log the fuck off.
