Who Is the CPAC Woman?

Politics

On the first day of the Conservative Political Action Conference, or CPAC, Jezebel spoke to women attendees about their beliefs and self-perceptions.

“CPAC women, they think for themselves,” Roslyn Layton, a visiting scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, told Jezebel. Independence was certainly a theme, alongside social values—such as their views on reproductive rights—that, when enforced by the state, prevent other women from obtaining it.

“There’s definitely more male prominence in the conservative movement,” Sarah Tommen, a student, told Jezebel. To be a woman attending CPAC, she said, meant “as a female, having a voice in the conservative movement.”
