Sen. Bernie Sanders delivered a brief rant on today’s episode of The View, and wow was it nice to hear after almost a full week of imagining the United States sliding into the ocean while its citizens bludgeon each other because the very idea of diversity drives them to a seething rage!

Asked if he thought that he would have won the election if he were the Democratic nominee, Sanders said, “The answer is, ‘Who knows and who will ever know?’” He proceeded to outline a plan for the future, which includes:

  1. Holding president-elect Donald J. Trump accountable for his promise to champion the working class. Sanders called for Trump to raise minimum wage to $15/hour, enact pay equity for women, create jobs rebuilding infrastructure, create a trade policy so that corporate America has less incentive to outsource, and take on the greed of the pharmaceutical industry and Wall Street.
  2. Continuing to fight against bigotry: “This country has struggled too many years in the fight against discrimination, and the fight against bigotry and sexism,” he said. “We are not going to accept a president trying to divide us up...We’re going to fight against sexism and racism and xenophobia.”
  3. Convincing Trump that climate change is not a hoax. When asked by Joy Behar what will happen if Trump continues to ignore scientists on this, Sanders replied, “If he doesn’t, you’re not gonna have much of a planet left for your grandchildren.”

“What we should understand is the views that many of us have expressed are the views of the vast majority of the American people,” said Sanders. Even if believing this is harder than ever, it’s nice to hear, and hey, that’s something.
